Under the Riwaq

Islamic law is derived from various sources and serves as a guide for muslims on a personal and community level. We will cover topics such as: history of development, codification, primary and secondary sources, schools of thought (madhabs), the legal rulings, purposes of Islamic law (maqasid), procedural law, etc.

The objective is to help students build a foundational understanding of Islamic jurisprudence. Students who complete this course should have a better comprehension of Islamic law in regards to the authenticity, relevance, importance, development throughout history, and more.


This interactive-style course is to provide an overview of the methods in the Quran and Sunnah for setting and achieving ambitious goals. The audience will gain a better understanding of this topic and be encouraged to apply the lessons to their daily lives.


A one day intensive course comprising of four mini workshops, which will provide a general overview of the Islamic sciences. It’s goal coincides with our mission statement: to educate and ignite passion in individuals on traditional Islamic sciences.

Mainly, Under the Riwaq consists of 4 mini workshops: Tafsir, Hadith, Aqeedah, and Fiqh and it is conducted in one day. Each workshop usually has a different instructor or scholar, usually 4 speakers for the day. We complete this through specifically designed powerpoint lectures, with an interactive audience through handouts and course materials.


 

Islamic Law:
An Inside Look

This one day workshop covers topics such as and introduction into Islamic law, the sources of legislation, purpose of Sharia, schools of jurisprudence and much more.


 

Introduction to
the Sciences of
The Quran

This course introduces the various subjects relating to the Quran. We will cover topics such as: Wahi, Stages of Revelation, Purposes of Revelation, different Qiraats, Abrogation, Compilation, Preservation, Tafsir, etc. The objective is to help students build a closer connection with the Qur’an. Students who complete this course will have a better understanding of the authenticity and veracity of the Qur’an, its preservation throughout history, the different modes of recitation, and more.


 

Back to Basics:
The Prophetic Method

In this course we go through the important fundamental aspects of our faith and revisit these essentials strengthening our knowledge. Topics include Prayer, Purification, Qur’an, and Du’a.


 

Qur'an Night

This event is an opportunity to reflect on Allah’s revelation and enjoy wonderful styles of recitations. Filled with blessing and divine inspiration, the purpose of Qur’an night is to create an appreciation of the Qur’an.


 

The Four Hadith
of Abu Dawud

Imam Abu Dawud once stated that out of thousands of Ahadith he gathered for his famous book, Sunan Abu Dawud, sufficient for a person’s religion from them would be four. This course analyzes in-depth the four traditions that he chose.

This course tackles the burning question of who arbitrates and determines morals. The universality of the Qur’an is shown through science and logical reasoning, and concludes that Allah is the ultimate arbitrator of morals. What is morally acceptable is decided by societal understanding or God, but in either case someone is arbitrating this distinction.


An Ocean Of Oud: Turning Sickness into Spirituality is a series of Islamic study courses based upon the book ‘An Ocean of Oud’ written by Youssef Kromah and Hassan Faye. The course is tailored to connect the student to the Allah and The Prophet ﷺ through deep contemplation of the Quran and authentic Sunnah.


This course introduces various subjects relating to the Prophetic hadith. The hadith preserve the sunnah of the Prophet Muhammed (saw) and serve as the second source of the religion. We will cover topics such as: methods of classification, major works, famous narrators, preservation, compilation, famous compilers, women scholars of hadith, case studies, etc. The objective is to help students build a foundational understanding of the hadith tradition. Students who complete this course should have a better comprehension of hadith in regards to the authenticity, relevance, importance, preservation throughout history, and more.


In this course, The Beloved ﷺ, Ustadh Youssef Kromah & Hassan Faye will cover the seerah of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ through the lens of spirituality. This entire deen is centered on love and should be taught with the heart in mind.
